The good news is... your prayers are working.
Kean was a different child today from yesterday and overnight.
We did not get ANY sleep last night... well, maybe I exaggerate.
I think we got an hour and a half total.
The highlight was a visit from this guy.
Steve was one of our all time favorite nurses and even though
he wasn't even working in the Pediatric Cancer Unit, he came up
from NICU to see us. And wouldn't you know, Kean went right to him!
Kean's fever was down for much of the day, One of the three antibiotics
he is on sure helped make the blisters on his lip look a lot better.
The key today was keeping him entertained.
All he wanted to do was go bye bye.
And he felt good enough to stand and bang at the window
(I assume hoping to get the attention of the people below to
come and spring him).
I just had to throw in a shot of his little spindly legs.
It is a wonder those little toothpick ankles can support his body.
Eating was a joke.
He'd take a few bites, but mostly just tossed things onto the floor.
I'm pretty sure he has sores in his throat.
We had a few visitors today, our good friends, Mark and Calene Borup and
Cindy Jones came by... with lunch, videos for Kean and treats for mom.
As I said, he was a different child today. He had energy and
physically looked much better.
Dr. Chang went ahead and had him go through with his scheduled
Chemotherapy today (which is interesting because the Doc on last night said he was so sick we'd have to delay Chemo for a few). Dr. Chang felt he was strong enough and if we waited for Chemo, the
harder it would be for him to pull his counts back up. He was up to 100 today--
still horrendously low but at least headed in the right direction.
And he goes back on Steroids tonight.. so that should give his counts
(and his appetite) a boost. I'm just dreading the return of his evil twin.
Now for the girls. Reese is really struggling. Last night
she told me I needed to come home and be with her-- that
somebody else could stay with Kean. And then poor Greer.
I guess she has been rather weepy.
So my super mom came up and sent me home to spend the evening
with the family. Due to all these unscheduled circumstances, we
have delayed getting our Christmas decorations out and Reese
has convinced herself that Santa will be skipping our house if we
don't get a move on.
Each of the girls hung lights in their rooms and decorated
mini trees while I got most of the other decorations out.
Greer helped me get the "Elf on the Shelf" up-- old Eli has
been visiting for the past several years. I'm thinking this
year he will just have to stay put and "keep notes".
Our big quandary this year is the tree. Byron is very
anti-fake. But because of Kean, we can't have a live tree in the house.
So we aren't sure whether we will break down and borrow a fake one from
the neighbor (who isn't using hers) or follow tradition and have Byron
take the girls up into the mountains for a snow day, cut down a tree
and just put it on our back porch where we can see it through the window.
Anyone want to weigh in?
I think we are just too tired to make any decisions around here.

Well....The Hunsaker's say that you do both! The more the merrier! We love you all
That sounds like a good compromise! Also, you can get a good smelling evergreen scented candle to burn for the ambiance! Love your boy! He is a true light! I'll send you a link for the St Baldrick's page and for my team and hopefully we can support the Keanut this year!
