Those darn counts.
He was that close.
His Neutraphil counts came in at 690 and he has to be at 750 for them to start the new Chemo phase.
I talked to his doctor -- he said these little guys with Down syndrome just don't
metabolize the Chemo as well and that's why it is taking longer.
They don't seem worried. So I won't be.
Meet our date for Chemo today; Colleen Riggs.
Okay, she was darling with Kean.
He quickly got over the "let's only cling to mommy thing".
He also was pretty well behaved for the dreaded blood pressure reading.
Kean is so funny. I swear he hates getting his blood pressure taken...
much more than he minds getting poked in his chest (it is numb) and blood draws.
For some crazy reason (I think he just likes to be persnickety), the nurses always
have a hard time getting blood from him. We usually end up putting his hands in the air,
leaning forward and singing songs and dancing to get it to flow.
In other words, it's time for mommy to make a fool of herself.
But at this point, I'm like whatever it takes.
I lost all pride and dignity ages ago.
No wonder Kean liked hanging with Colleen so much... as the mother of two boys
she knew how to play "crash the trucks", "throw everything" and even let him sit
in the big dump truck.
He had a grand time.
And get this, we get to do it all over again on Thursday!
Let's hope his little body kicks into gear and starts making those healthy soldier cells.

What a bummer. Hopefully Thursday works out. Kind of strange ... hoping to be able to have chemo. I wonder if Colleen's family is related to Emily's?
