So Far So Good

Clearly, the doctor gave me the worst case scenario yesterday.  Because, as of tonight,
we haven't seen any vomiting.  Keanut is hanging tough.  He's a bit edgy but doing much
better than I had expected.  I do know, they'll ramp up the doses of Chemo with each IV, so
we could have up-chucking in our future.  But as of now, I think we've dodged it this time around.
Kean's sisters are quite the entertainers.  They love to dress up and
put on shows.  That's our neighbor in the rock star get up.
Reese told me this morning that she didn't like school.
She said it's much too hard, compared to Kindergarten
and the bigger issue is she doesn't like being away from Mommy and Kean all day!
Keep in mind, this is the same girl who tells us weekly that
she is never going to get married because she
wants to live with Mommy, Daddy and Kean
forever.

Crazy Dreams

Ahhh, sweet sleep.  Welcome back.
Kean is doing fabulous.
Other than pulling off those new hearing aids... the kid is back to his old self.
Now for Reese.
She's had a few nightmares that have woken her up (and me too).
One of them, I have to share.
It's, shall we say, priceless.
She woke me up to tell me she had a bad dream.
Expecting monsters in the closet?
No, try this on for size...
She dreamt there were puppies in the closet.
Lots of 'em.
They were grey with blue eyes.
And they were eating pizza.
Anyone want to try and interpret this one?

Happy Apricot Day!

 Happy St. Patty's Day.
Reese got all excited this morning to find a trail of shamrocks with real, live glitter sprinkles about...
and candy (of course).
So excited in fact, she blurted out that the "Apricot" had come!
I don't think I'll ever again picture Leprechauns as green.
In my mind- they'll from here on out- be a nice shade of orange.
Day three of tonsil world at my house.
And I think it's been the worst so far.
Well, maybe not.  At least she's not still throwing up.
But she is in pain and getting her to eat anything today was like getting Reese to hold still
or be quiet for half an hour.
Near impossible.
Poor Greer.
She's not like the rest of us, able to go a few days without much food.
The child weighs about as much as a stuffed animal.
In fact, we joked that when they took out her tonsils, she likely lost a pound or two.

Practice Makes Perfecto

Right before Kean's therapy, Reese announced she had some work to do.
She told me she has to practice her "training to become a Musketeer".
You know, the ol' kicking, flipping, sliding down walls and riding horses side saddle stuff.
Thankfully, we have no sword play - as of yet.
I thought you'd like to know, Kean had his best therapy session yet.
Besides practicing climbing up stairs and sliding down them (hmmm, sounds kinda like Musketeer training),
the crawling exercises and getting into a sitting position, Maureen showed him that someday his legs will be for standing-- not just playing "this little piggy"...
He's getting stronger and stronger (and cuter and cuter), if I do say so myself.

Her Brain

Reese and her preschool class went on their first field trip-- to a dentist's office. She loved it and was just bubbling over with information when I picked her up. Are you ready for this exchange?
Reese: "Guess what? Did you know if you eat something sticky and you don't have a toothbrush, you can use a healthy food like a crunchy apple and it will clean your teeth!"
Me: "I know. Can you think of some healthy foods, other than an apple, that are crunchy?"
Reese: "Hmmm. I know. How 'bout some carrots or celery!"
Me: "That's great. I didn't even think of celery."

(Intermission, while she thinks for a minute)

Reese: "Mom, when we go on our trip to Hannah Montana, I'm not going to bring my toothbrush. I'm just going to bring celery!"

That dentist would be proud. Just think of all the cavities he can fix on her in the future.

What is going on in that little mind of hers??????

If you've read this blog with any small amount of consistency, you'll know that our youngest daughter is made up of 100 percent personality. It never stops. In fact, I'm convinced I could write a book on her musings alone.

Yesterday, she spent a good twenty minutes asking me all types of questions about mermaids-- here's one: "When mermaids are babies, do they have to swim with a life vest?"
I guess my answers about mermaids weren't compelling enough because by bedtime she had given up her quest to become a mermaid. As Byron was tucking her in, she made him look out the window and make a wish upon the moon. She told him he had to repeat (with her) three times loudly-- "I wish I was a princess, I wish I was a princess, I wish I was a princess"! I can report, so far, Byron's "wish" has not come true.
As you can see, she can be a bit bossy. The other day she told me to call up my friend Andrea for a play date for us moms. That way, she could have a play date at the same time with her daughter, Anne. See, everybody's happy.
The other day, she asked me to tell her how old I am. When I told her I'm really old. She said, that's what daddy says he is-- really, really old. She then asked me why I don't have those big cracks in my face, if I'm so old. I told her, just wait, they're coming!
Trust me, the girl can talk non-stop. And I must admit, sometimes, I just periodically throw her a uh, huh, or mmmm, I see. At lunch the other day, she spent the entire time telling me about how water starts coming out of her neck when it gets hot outside. And how her hair sticks to the water on her neck and it drives her crazy.
So next time one of you stops by the house-- please understand why once in a while I'm feeling desperate for adult conversation.
Seriously, she's quite entertaining. Who needs movies or TV with her around? Here's one final gem: Reese asked me if she was born in the same hospital as baby Kean. When I told her yes-- she replied, "I knew it, I just knew that is why we have always been best friends"!

Reese, oh Reese.

I'm sitting in Sunday School at church today, when the door opens and one of the leaders of the children's organization, walks in holding Reese. She tells me that Reese said she needed to leave and go to her mother, her allergies were bothering her.
The thing is... Reese doesn't have allergies.
What a smooth little operator!

Going, going, gone

I can't believe June is almost over. Every day has been run, run, run. We've been doing a ton of swimming at Grandpa Bodily's (Kean went for his first real dip the other day and loved it) and yesterday and today, the girls have been selling lemonade and cookies at a neighbor's garage sale. I just put Reese down for a nap. Get this-- and remember she's only 3-- she asked me if when she gets bigger, if, I'd teach her how to drive. I told her yes, but it will be a while until she's old enough. She literally gushed: "Oh, thank you mommy. I can't wait!" Pray tell me, what is a three year old doing obsessing about learning how to drive? She is truly 3 going on 18!
Kean's "comb over" is getting long enough, it's drooping into one of his eyes. And as much as I like the rakish, bad boy hair in the face look-- I'm leaning toward cutting it. I think it's time. So unless many of you have some strong feelings or valid arguments as to why I shouldn't do it-- speak or forever hold your peace!
